Sines, Portugal
A deep-water Atlantic energy port. We arrange freight, storage and inspection for crude and products at Sines, where natural depths reach 28 metres.

Sines is Portugal's energy port. Its liquid bulk terminal has six jetties and natural depths to 28 metres, enough for tankers up to 350,000 deadweight tonnes, and it sits on the routes between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
The port hosts Galp's Sines refinery, the national LNG import terminal and a petrochemical complex. We fix crude and product freight into and out of Sines, source storage, and appoint independent inspectors at the jetties.
Why depth matters at Sines
Few European ports can take a fully laden very large crude carrier alongside. Sines can, which makes it a useful discharge point for long-haul crude and a natural alternative to transshipment elsewhere in Iberia. The REN Atlântico LNG terminal next door covered almost all of Portugal's gas needs in 2025.
What we arrange in Sines
Port volumes fell 12 percent in 2025 because of labour disruption, bad weather and a refinery stoppage, so we confirm berth availability early. The port is run by the Port Authority of Sines and the Algarve.
- Crude and product freight into and out of Sines
- Storage sourcing at the port
- Independent inspection at the jetties
- Tracking from load port to discharge
Frequently asked questions
Can Sines take very large tankers?
Yes. The liquid bulk terminal takes tankers up to 350,000 deadweight tonnes.
Why did Sines volumes fall in 2025?
Labour disruption, 26 days of bad weather and a stoppage at the refinery.
How does Sines compare with Algeciras?
Sines offers deeper natural water on the open Atlantic and its own refinery, while Algeciras is a bunkering and transshipment hub on the Strait.
