Arzew & Skikda, Algeria

Algeria's Mediterranean export complexes. We arrange freight and inspection for crude, products and LNG from Arzew-Bethioua and Skikda.

LNG tanks and refinery towers on a Mediterranean coast with a gas carrier at a jetty

Arzew-Bethioua in the west and Skikda in the east are Sonatrach's two main hydrocarbon export complexes. Each combines refining, gas liquefaction and export jetties, and both are a short voyage from Spain, France and Italy.

Arzew-Bethioua has 13 LNG trains with about 20.8 million tonnes a year of capacity. Skikda restarted its LNG train in 2025 and opened a jetty for large LNG carriers in 2024. We arrange freight and inspection for cargoes loading at both.

Two export complexes

Both sites are fully operated by Sonatrach. Skikda has two integrated refining units, and the Arzew refinery was rehabilitated to raise its capacity. The industry is regulated by the hydrocarbons regulator ARH, and a dozen distributors operate alongside the state distributor Naftal.
