Ras Laffan, Qatar

The home of Qatari LNG. We arrange LNG carrier scheduling, condensate and product freight, and inspection at Ras Laffan.

LNG carriers at berths beside large white LNG tanks on a desert coast

Ras Laffan is the export hub for Qatar's LNG industry, one of the largest in the world. QatarEnergy owns, operates and regulates the port, which also handles condensate, liquid products and Pearl GTL output.

Strikes in March 2026 damaged two LNG trains, and force majeure on some contracts was extended into December 2026. We arrange carrier scheduling, product freight and inspection.

The port

Ras Laffan has six LNG berths, six liquid product berths, two single point moorings and a dredged depth of 14.5 metres. It takes Q-Flex and Q-Max LNG carriers. QatarEnergy expects repairs to the damaged trains to take three to five years.

Loading in the Gulf today

Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has been disrupted since March 2026. In October 2026 the strait was partly open but contested, with frequent security incidents. Voyage planning now includes war-risk insurance, routing advice and contingency timing.
