Philadelphia & Delaware River
The East Coast's largest remaining refining center. We arrange crude freight, product storage and inspection along the Delaware River.

The Delaware River between Philadelphia and the sea hosts the largest group of refineries left on the US East Coast. Crude arrives by tanker, and products move on to Northeast markets by barge, pipeline and truck.
The main channel was deepened from 40 to 45 feet over about 103 miles, which reduced the need for lightering in the bay. We fix crude and product freight, source storage and appoint inspectors.
Refineries on the river
Three refineries operate on the river, supplying gasoline, diesel and jet fuel to the Northeast. East Coast product prices generally reference NY Harbor futures.
| Refinery | Capacity (b/cd) |
|---|---|
| Monroe Energy, Trainer | 190,000 |
| PBF Delaware City | 171,000 |
| PBF Paulsboro | 160,000 |
What we arrange
The deeper channel lets larger tankers come upriver with fewer lightering operations.
- Crude freight into Delaware River refineries
- Product storage and barge distribution
- Independent inspection at each transfer
- Tracking from load port to the river
Frequently asked questions
How deep is the Delaware channel?
45 feet, after the federal deepening finished around 2020.
Which refineries operate on the river?
Monroe Energy Trainer, PBF Delaware City and PBF Paulsboro.
Did the deepening reduce lightering?
That was its purpose: fewer tankers need to offload part of their cargo before coming upriver.
